Eddie Nketia Clocks Wind-Aided 9.74 to Win Big Ten 100m

The runs strengthen his case for a place in Australia’s sprint relay pool.

Overview

  • Competing for USC at the Big Ten championships in Lincoln, Nebraska, Eddie Nketia won the 100m in 9.74 seconds with a +5.6 m/s tailwind.
  • He completed the sprint double by taking the 200m in 20.03 seconds, also wind-aided with a +7.5 m/s reading.
  • Because record ratification requires a tailwind of +2.0 m/s or less, neither mark counts for the record books despite the raw speed.
  • Both times outstrip the 9.93 seconds Australian 100m record held by Patrick Johnson, and they follow Nketia’s earlier 9.84 with a +2.8 m/s wind this season.
  • Nketia wrote "Lesss make it legal next time" on Instagram, and his form has spurred talk that he could be in the mix for Australia’s 4x100m at upcoming world events and Los Angeles 2028.
