ED Widens Chhattisgarh Liquor Probe With Fresh Attachments and Expanded Chargesheet

The agency estimates ₹2,883 crore in illicit gains from a parallel liquor network allegedly controlled by senior officials as well as political figures.

  • Fresh provisional attachments of ₹38.21 crore target former excise commissioner Niranjan Das and 30 other excise officials, covering 78 properties and 197 financial investments.
  • Properties worth ₹68.16 crore linked to Chhattisgarh Distilleries Ltd., Bhatia Wine Merchants Pvt. Ltd. and Welcome Distilleries Pvt. Ltd. were attached, taking cumulative attachments against these distillers to ₹96.55 crore.
  • The ED’s supplementary prosecution complaint filed on December 26 named 59 additional accused, bringing the total to 81 across bureaucratic, political and private networks.
  • Cumulative attachments in the liquor case now stand at about ₹382.32 crore as the agency details four revenue streams used to siphon funds, including off‑the‑books sales with duplicate holograms.
  • Separately, ED searches in a Bharatmala land‑compensation probe seized over ₹40 lakh in cash and documents from premises linked to key suspects, with asset‑tracing work continuing.
