ED Issues Second Asset Attachment Worth Rs 33.66 Crore in Manipur Deposit-Fraud Probe

The case centers on an alleged unauthorised deposit scheme that authorities say cheated about 5,000 Manipur investors of over Rs 250 crore.

Overview

  • With the latest order, total properties attached in the case now stand at about Rs 61.68 crore.
  • The action covers 121 additional immovable assets registered in the names of Birla Emporium, Ira Finance, director Yumnam Irabanta Singh, and associates.
  • The probe began after FIRs by the Manipur CID against Singh under IPC provisions tied to alleged cheating and misappropriation.
  • ED alleges the scheme ran from 2019 to 2021 promising high returns, and the companies closed to depositors in early 2020 without repaying funds.
  • Investigators also allege loans against property were followed by sale-deed transfers of borrowers’ assets to company insiders, and a PMLA prosecution complaint was filed on June 6, 2025 as inquiries continue.
