ECI Publishes West Bengal Draft Voter Rolls, Flags 58 Lakh Names for Deletion

The claims-and-objections window is open through January 15 with hearings to follow before final rolls on February 14.

Overview

  • Official data show 24.16 lakh marked deceased, 19.88 lakh permanently shifted, 12.20 lakh missing or untraceable, and 1.38 lakh enrolled at multiple places, with additional smaller categories.
  • The draft electorate now stands at 7,08,16,631, down from about 7.66 crore, with many proposed deletions traced to more than 58 lakh uncollectable SIR enumeration forms.
  • Booth-wise deletion lists and reasons are available on the CEO West Bengal site, the ECI voter portal and ECINET, and affected electors can seek inclusion by filing Form 6 with supporting documents.
  • Large concentrations are reported in Kolkata seats such as Chowringhee (74,553), Kolkata Port (63,730) and Bhabanipur (44,787), while South 24 Parganas records the highest district-level deletions at 8,16,047.
  • The TMC alleges wrongful exclusions and a partisan design, the BJP defends the exercise, and the CEO says about 1.36 crore voters will be called for hearings as officials add ERO capacity and manage BLO grievances.
