ECI Finalizes Plans for First Global Democracy and Election Management Conference in Delhi, Jan 21–23

The forum will advance India’s 2026 International IDEA chairship by convening 42 election bodies to shape standards on technology, voter rolls and misinformation.

Overview

  • At a preparatory meet on January 8, the Election Commission briefed Chief Electoral Officers and assigned them to lead 36 thematic groups for the three-day program.
  • Participation is confirmed from more than 90 international delegates representing 42 election management bodies, with attendees expected from countries including the United States, Brazil, Bhutan and Mauritius.
  • The agenda features sessions on AI in elections, purity of electoral rolls, voter registration processes, combating misinformation, and balloting systems including electronic voting machines.
  • The program is slated to include the launch of ECINet, the Election Commission’s integrated digital platform, alongside an EMB leaders’ plenary and working group meetings.
  • Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi plan over 40 bilateral meetings with counterparts, with discussions to cover roll revision and SIR-related mechanisms.
