ECB Warns Hundred Teams Over Reported Pakistan Player Exclusion Ahead of Auction

The ECB’s warning puts teams on notice before the March 11–12 auction.

Overview

  • After BBC reports that four IPL-linked franchises — Manchester Super Giants, MI London, Southern Brave and Sunrisers Leeds — would not consider Pakistan players, the ECB emailed all eight teams reminding them of anti-discrimination rules.
  • Teams were told they could face action, including referral to the independent Cricket Regulator, if there is evidence players are ignored because of nationality.
  • The PCB is preparing to write to the ECB seeking assurances that Pakistani cricketers will receive fair consideration at the auction.
  • A total of 67 Pakistan players — 63 men and four women — have registered for the London auction, though Test commitments during the July 21–Aug. 16 tournament may affect availability.
  • England’s Harry Brook called potential exclusion a shame, Michael Vaughan urged swift action, and Moeen Ali warned players could speak out if discrimination occurs.
