EC Publishes Third Supplementary Voter List in Bengal as 37 Lakh Cases Settled

Opaque data plus software snags keep many rulings off the rolls.

Overview

  • The Election Commission released the third supplementary voter list late Saturday with booth-wise PDFs online but no official count of additions or deletions.
  • About 37 lakh of 60.06 lakh disputed entries have been adjudicated by 705 judicial officers under Calcutta High Court supervision, yet the commission has not issued a booth-wise tally.
  • Officials say roughly 35–40% of adjudicated names are deletions, and earlier roll updates had already struck off more than 63 lakh entries before these lists.
  • A late-added e-signature step left about 15 lakh cleared cases missing from the first two publications, and officials say new lists will be posted daily to close the gap.
  • TMC asked the High Court to fast-track rulings for 11 nominees under review, two of whom were later cleared in Friday’s list, a pressing issue with nomination deadlines on April 6 and 9.
