Overview
- Government bulletins put confirmed infections at about 3,075–3,200 and report at least 1,405 deaths, with a reported case fatality near 40–44 percent.
- Ituri remains the epicentre and the outbreak has now spread across five provinces including North Kivu, South Kivu, Haut‑Uele and Tshopo.
- WHO says the true size could be two to four times larger than official counts because unsecured areas, late detection and gaps in surveillance leave many chains of transmission hidden.
- Clinical response is accelerating: randomized trials of monoclonal antibodies and antivirals are under way and the Oxford Vaccine Group has given a first volunteer an experimental Bundibugyo vaccine dose.
- Operations are strained by armed attacks on health sites, unpaid health‑worker strikes, poor roads and lab reagent shortages, which slow contact tracing, testing and care and raise risks of broader humanitarian impact.
