Early Voting Starts Monday for Texas Primary Runoffs

These runoffs resolve March races without majority to set November matchups.

Overview

  • Early voting runs May 18–22, with Election Day on Tuesday, May 26, and Bexar County polling sites open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • The mail-in ballot application deadline passed Friday at 5 p.m., and eligibility is limited to voters 65 or older, those with a disability, people away from their county, eligible voters in jail, or those expecting to give birth near Election Day.
  • A UH Hobby School poll shows Ken Paxton leading John Cornyn 48% to 45% among likely Republican runoff voters, within a margin of error under 3%.
  • Texas rules require voters who chose a party in March to vote in that same party’s runoff, while those who skipped the primary may pick either party’s ballot.
  • In-person voters must show photo ID such as a Texas driver’s license, handgun license, U.S. passport, military ID, or citizenship certificate, and help is available at the Texas Civil Rights Project’s 866-OUR-VOTE hotline.
