Early Voting Starts in Georgia as June 16 Runoffs Decide GOP Governor and Senate Nominees

Low expected turnout means targeted ground campaigns are likely to determine who will face Democrats in November.

Overview

  • Early in-person voting runs June 8–12 across Georgia with Election Day scheduled for Tuesday, June 16 when multiple primary runoffs will be decided.
  • The most prominent contests are the Republican governor runoff between Burt Jones and Rick Jackson and a GOP U.S. Senate runoff that will produce Jon Ossoff’s November opponent.
  • Absentee ballot requests for the runoffs had to be submitted by June 5 so voters who missed that deadline must use early in-person voting or vote at their assigned precinct on June 16.
  • Voters must show an accepted photo ID to cast a ballot and on Election Day polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at each voter’s assigned precinct.
  • Campaigns and endorsements are concentrating on turnout because Georgia runoffs historically draw lower participation and small shifts in who votes can change November matchups.
