Overview
- The break-ins occurred within roughly an hour beginning around 4 a.m. Friday morning and targeted businesses clustered in Bronzeville and Hyde Park.
- Officers say suspects forced entry by breaking glass doors or windows, grabbed cash registers and at least one safe, then left in a dark vehicle described as a black SUV or Honda CRV.
- Surveillance and eyewitness video captured the crimes at multiple locations, including Jet Star Food Mart, Sweet Drip Dessert Cafe, Sip & Savor, La Boulangerie & Co., and a nearby Jimmy John’s.
- Owners reported that repair and replacement costs from smashed doors and windows exceed the cash stolen and that some businesses have been repeatedly targeted in prior incidents.
- No arrests have been made so far and Area One detectives are probing the coordinated series of burglaries while police have issued a business alert for the area.
