Early Maize Harvest in Argentina’s Core Belt Averages 100 qq/ha, With Sharp West–East Divide

Storm warnings are speeding up harvest across the core belt.

Overview

  • Roughly 10% of early maize area—about 150,000 hectares—has been harvested, yielding an initial regional average near 100 quintals per hectare in the región núcleo.
  • Yields are highly uneven, with the western sector topping 105 qq/ha and many eastern areas near Rosario at 70–80 qq/ha, including gaps of up to 95 qq within Marcos Juárez.
  • Recent rainfall favored the west with about 50–64 mm over seven days, while the east recorded only 2–22 mm, reinforcing the spatial yield contrast.
  • Harvesting has accelerated to preempt forecast violent storms, following recent wind damage and isolated hail that previously affected about 30,000 hectares.
  • Buenos Aires Grain Exchange kept national output projections unchanged at 48.5 Mt for soy and 57 Mt for maize, and reported sunflower 33.8% harvested at an average 23 qq/ha with a 6.2 Mt outlook.
