EA Confirms Leak of Motive’s Iron Man Trailer

The publisher acknowledged an unauthorized work-in-progress clip and said it will reveal more on its own timetable because the footage does not represent a finished game.

Overview

  • The developer’s test trailer circulated online Friday, Aug. 28, and EA’s official Iron Man account confirmed the footage is legitimate while calling it an unintended early reveal.
  • The two-to-three minute clip, watermarked “Aug26 test,” shows fast, free-flight across a large city, rapid transitions between aerial and on-foot combat, and a wide array of weapons and gadgets.
  • The leak includes an on-screen suit customisation and upgrade interface that appears to let players change armour modules and equip different weapons and abilities.
  • Characters and villains shown in the footage include Tony Stark, Pepper Potts, James Rhodes and comic-book versions of figures such as Obadiah Stane and Madame Masque, but many scenes use unfinished models and placeholder credits.
  • Separately, an unrelated hour-long leak earlier this week revealed a cancelled 2012 Iron Man build from Avalanche Studios, and industry observers say high-profile leaks can force early publisher responses and complicate developers’ timelines and morale.
