Dyson Launches Supersonic Travel, a Smaller and Cheaper Take on Its Hair Dryer

The compact model adds automatic 100–240V power adaptation so frequent flyers can plug in worldwide without a converter.

Overview

  • Dyson’s Supersonic Travel, announced Tuesday, is on sale in the UK for £249.99, Australia for AU$449 and Canada for $399.99 CAD, with U.S. listings reported at $299.99 on Dyson’s site, Amazon and Best Buy.
  • The dryer is 32% smaller and 25% lighter than the original at about 0.7 pounds, making it easier to pack in carry-ons and gym bags.
  • Automatic global voltage support (100–240V) lets the device adjust to local power systems, which means travelers can use it from Sydney to New York without a separate converter.
  • The model keeps Dyson’s intelligent heat control and Scalp Protect mode and works with existing magnetic Supersonic attachments, though only a styling concentrator is included.
  • Power is lower than the full-size Supersonic, at 1,000–1,220 watts and 11.6 L/s airflow versus 1,600 watts and 13.3 L/s, so users may see slightly longer dry times.
