Overview
- Most pensioners born before 27 June 1960 will receive automatic Winter Fuel Payments in November and December 2026, with £200 paid to those under 80 and £300 to those aged 80 or over.
- The DWP set birth‑date cutoffs at 28 September 1946 and 27 June 1960, and said some people who never had the payment or who deferred their State Pension will need to claim.
- HMRC will recover Winter Fuel Payments in full from anyone with total taxable income above £35,000, usually by adjusting tax codes or through Self Assessment, and official letters will not ask for bank details to help prevent scams.
- The full New State Pension is £241.30 a week and the full Basic State Pension is £184.90 a week for 2026/27 under the triple lock, which brings many retirees closer to the frozen £12,570 personal allowance and increases the chance of small tax bills on extra income.
- Because of the late‑May bank holiday, some State Pension payments for people with National Insurance numbers ending 00–19 will arrive on the previous working day rather than the usual Monday.
