DWD Warns as Cold Front Flips Germany Back to Wind, Rain and Mountain Snow

Forecasters expect the brief downturn to ease from Tuesday with a return to milder, drier conditions.

Overview

  • The Deutscher Wetterdienst maintains widespread alerts for wind, rain, snow and slippery roads, with coastal zones and exposed summits facing strong gusts and very rough seas.
  • Snow is confined mainly to higher elevations in the western Mittelgebirge, the Black Forest and parts of the Alps, where localized totals around 5–10 centimeters are possible in stau regions.
  • Recent mild days mean the ground is warm, so new snow will be wet and patchy and is unlikely to offer reliable winter-sport conditions, according to DWD meteorologists.
  • A pronounced temperature split persists, with single-digit highs in the west and northwest versus 15–18 degrees in the east and southeast on Saturday, then a relative advantage for the west on Sunday.
  • Another band of rain sweeps through late Sunday into Monday with local glätte and brief showers or graupel possible, before high pressure lifts temperatures back toward 9–14 degrees from Tuesday.
