DWD Maps Show 'Very High' Pollen Across Germany as Alder and Hazel Peak

Mild, dry weather plus Saharan dust is expected to prolong high exposure.

Overview

  • The Deutscher Wetterdienst reports dark-red, very high pollen concentrations across large areas, driven chiefly by alder and hazel.
  • Alder readings are high in nearly all measuring cities, including Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Hanover, with Düsseldorf at medium levels.
  • Hazel burden is mostly medium but reaches high in Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg, and forecasters expect medium to high exposure to persist in the coming days.
  • Forecasters note an early-starting season in recent years and warn that incoming Saharan dust may dim sunshine and worsen conditions for allergy sufferers.
  • Other major allergenic pollens such as ash, ambrosia, grasses, birch, mugwort and rye are not currently active, and DWD tools and apps offer localized guidance alongside standard treatments and potential immunotherapy for severe cases.
