Overview
- Delhi Police’s Anti-Auto Theft Squad, which intercepted the pair early Sunday near Urban Extension Road, arrested Rocky, 22, and Sumit alias Koki, 24, after a brief exchange of fire.
- Officers say Rocky fired three shots that hit a head constable’s bulletproof vest, and police returned fire in controlled self-defence, wounding him below the left knee with no police injuries reported.
- Investigators recovered a 7.65 mm pistol with two live rounds and three spent shells from Rocky, seized a country-made gun with a live cartridge from Sumit, and took the Yamaha motorcycle used in the crime.
- The arrests follow a Friday attack in Shyam Vihar Phase 2 in which a shooter allegedly tried to fire at a complainant at point-blank range but the gun failed, prompting FIR No. 129/26 on April 18 under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act.
- Police hospitalized the injured suspect and opened a fresh case linked to the gunfire, and they are examining alleged ties to the Vikas Lagarpuria gang as they probe motive and any wider conspiracy.
