DVSA Limits Driving Test Booking Changes to Two From March 31

The agency says the tighter rules aim to curb exploitation to free up local test slots.

Overview

  • From March 31, 2026, learners in Great Britain can make only two changes to a booked car test; those who have already used all permitted changes will receive two fresh changes from that date.
  • A "change" now covers altering the date or time, switching the test centre, or swapping an appointment with another learner.
  • After two changes, candidates must cancel and rebook to alter plans further, with a full refund available if cancellation is at least 10 full working days before the test.
  • Later in spring 2026, only the learner will be able to book and manage tests, and moves will be limited to centres near the original booking, with exact start dates to follow.
  • To boost capacity, 36 defence driving examiners will conduct tests one day a week for 12 months, delivering up to about 6,500 additional tests a year.
