Overview
- From March 31, 2026, learners will be limited to two changes to a booked practical car test, with further alterations requiring cancellation and rebooking; full refunds apply if cancelled at least 10 full working days in advance.
- From May 12, 2026, only the learner can book, change or swap a car test through the official GOV.UK system, with third‑party management — including by instructors — prohibited.
- Existing instructor‑booked tests will still go ahead, but learners will need the instructor’s reference number to manage those bookings once the new rules take effect.
- From June 9, 2026, a booked test can be moved only to the original centre or one of the three nearest centres, ending nationwide relocations.
- The measures apply to car tests across England, Scotland and Wales, and DVSA will contact affected users; separately, theory tests in early 2026 add new CPR and AED questions.
