Dutch Police Seek Six Suspects in Elder-Targeted Rijnmond Scam Spree Totaling €20,000

Bureau Rijnmond will show their faces on 21 May absent a surrender.

Overview

  • Police used the Bureau Rijnmond TV appeal to hunt six suspects tied to seven linked frauds that cost victims about €20,000.
  • Images now air with faces blurred because the suspects are believed to be minors, with a warning they will be shown unmasked on 21 May unless they surrender.
  • The scammers posed as bank staff or police and used phone tricks to collect cards, PINs, cash and jewelry from older residents in Dordrecht, Gorinchem, Papendrecht, Oud-Beijerland and Bleskensgraaf.
  • Examples include €5,500 from a 60-year-old, nearly €5,000 each from two Dordrecht victims, about €2,500 from an 89-year-old, and a Dirksland theft of heirloom jewelry with a same-day €650 ATM withdrawal.
  • Police ask anyone who recognizes the suspects or the stolen items to call the Opsporingstiplijn at 0800-6070 or report anonymously via Meld Misdaad Anoniem at 0800-7000.
