Overview
- A transport truck and a passenger vehicle collided shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at College Line and Imperial Road about 1.5 kilometres north of Aylmer, and investigators worked at the scene with temporary road closures.
- Durham Regional Police identified the driver killed in the passenger vehicle as 27-year-old constable in training Tyrone Magbitang.
- Magbitang had served as a Durham special constable since May 2023 and was selected as a police constable recruit in April, a loss colleagues described as the death of a promising new officer.
- The other occupant of the car, also a recruit, was taken to hospital with life‑threatening injuries while the transport truck driver reported no injuries.
- The OPP collision investigation remains active, police asked the public for any information, and Magbitang’s remains will be transported to the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto accompanied by family and Durham police.
