His rare early-June defeat has left him fired up to try to push the record beyond 6.31m in Monaco.

Overview

  • Duplantis suffered a shock loss in early June in Stockholm when he failed to clear six metres, ending a 40-meet winning run and calling the result a wake-up call.
  • He married longtime partner DesirĂ© Inglander in mid-June and says the change has left him feeling refreshed and more focused for the rest of the season.
  • The world champion recovered to win in Paris by clearing 6.13m but did not better his 6.31m world record set in March.
  • Now a Monaco resident, Duplantis pressed organisers to add pole vault to Meeting Herculis EBS and arrives at his new 'home turf' aiming for a marginal 16th record improvement around 6.32m.
  • He faces a deep field including Kurtis Marschall, Baptiste Thiery, Thibaut Collet and veteran Renaud Lavillenie, testing whether recent life events and renewed motivation will produce another world mark and sustain his dominance.
