Overview
- Dunamu and Visa announced on Aug. 28 that they had signed a strategic, exploratory roadmap to study stablecoin-based payments, cross-border remittances and AI-driven payment experiences.
- The partners said they will evaluate business models that could use Open USD (OUSD) but Dunamu has not committed to issuing OUSD or acting as an OUSD issuer.
- Work on AI includes agentic commerce, where software can search for products, select services and execute payments on a user’s behalf, and the companies will study how to authenticate, authorize and settle those transactions.
- No commercial product, launch date, blockchain, custody provider, settlement process or initial markets have been chosen, and any launch will depend on technical decisions and South Korea’s evolving stablecoin, AML and foreign-exchange rules.
- The deal expands Visa’s push into South Korea after a separate Shinhan agreement and gives Upbit owner Dunamu a route to test remittance and payment use cases while Visa brings global payments scale and existing stablecoin settlement experience.
