Ducati Says Marc Marquez to Have Foot and Shoulder Surgery, Out of French and Catalan GPs

The combined plan tackles a fresh foot break alongside a shoulder screw found to be pressing on his radial nerve.

Overview

  • Marquez crashed in Saturday's Le Mans sprint and X-rays showed a fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his right foot, leading Ducati to rule him out of Sunday's race and next week's Catalan round.
  • Team officials confirmed he is in Madrid for surgery today on the fractured foot and that doctors will also operate on his right shoulder during the same hospital visit.
  • Marquez and his medical team say a damaged shoulder screw from an Indonesia crash was contacting the radial nerve in riding position, which they believe caused arm weakness, inconsistency, and recent crashes.
  • The layoff deepens an already large points gap to leader Marco Bezzecchi, with Marquez more than 50 points adrift, and any return target such as Mugello later this month depends on recovery and fitness checks.
  • Riders who studied the replay said the highside began when his front tyre touched the white line and kerb join, and the incident capped a mixed season that included a Le Mans qualifying lap record but no Sunday podiums.
