Dublin Court Jails Man for Manslaughter of Canadian Tourist After Running Kick

The judge called the running kick a deliberate, brazen blow to a defenceless man.

Overview

  • Ionut Danca pleaded guilty to the unlawful killing of 42-year-old Neno Dolmajian and received a six-year sentence with the final six months suspended, yielding an effective five and a half years in prison.
  • Judge Paul McDermott said the kick to the head was deliberately aimed and carried out in public view, describing it as shocking to watch.
  • Co-accused Madalin Ghiuzan was sentenced to 12 months for an earlier assault, with the balance suspended after four and a half months served, and he will be released.
  • The violence followed an initial confrontation outside the Living Room nightclub, after which Dolmajian followed the group to O’Connell Street where Danca delivered a full-force running kick to his head.
  • Dolmajian died nine days later in the Mater Hospital, and prosecutors had earlier dropped a murder charge against Danca and a manslaughter charge against Ghiuzan.
