Dublin Court Gives Suspended Six-Month Term to Man Who Stalked Influencer

The judge linked the outcome to a probation finding that alcohol addiction posed the primary risk.

Overview

  • Denis Morris, 24, pleaded guilty to stalking after following a woman from Harcourt Street into the Iveagh Gardens Hotel, into a lift and along the corridor near her room on March 21 last year while holding a belt.
  • Dublin District Court imposed a six-month sentence suspended for 12 months with requirements to continue alcohol treatment and remain under Probation Service supervision for six months.
  • CCTV and the victim’s phone recording were shown in court, and gardaí traced Morris using additional CCTV and a taxi app before arresting and interviewing him.
  • Judge Treasa Kelly noted the significant psychological impact on the victim and cited the probation assessment describing Morris as a chronic alcoholic who becomes a danger when drinking.
  • The victim, who maintained anonymity, declined €2,000 in compensation and asked that it be donated to Cuan Saor, a charity supporting victims of domestic and gender-based violence.
