Overview
- The Dubai Land Department unveiled the Flexi Rent pilot on Tuesday, partnering with 12 real‑estate firms to test alternatives to the traditional multi‑cheque annual lease.
- Participating companies will offer instalment options that let tenants split annual rent into monthly, quarterly or other schedules and may provide grace periods or redesigned payment timetables.
- Tenants who already signed four‑cheque agreements can request changes and will have the usual change fee waived, and in specific cases landlords may waive this year’s rent increases.
- Payments under the pilot can be made by credit card, debit card or cheque, and switching to a Flexi Rent plan will be handled case by case between tenants and the participating landlords or property managers.
- DLD will monitor the pilot before expanding the programme, which targets Dubai’s large rental market that recorded about 1.2 million tenancy contracts last year and could reduce upfront cash pressure for many households.
