DTC Confirms Pink Paper Tickets Still Valid as Pink Saheli Cards Roll Out

The move aims to prevent disruption during a phased switch to Aadhaar-verified smart cards that limit the free-bus benefit to Delhi residents.

Overview

  • Delhi Transport Corporation said women can continue free travel on DTC buses using pink paper tickets until most eligible beneficiaries receive Pink Saheli smart cards.
  • The corporation has not set a cut-off date for discontinuing paper tickets and said any phase-out will happen only after broad distribution of the new cards.
  • The Pink Saheli scheme, launched March 2, restricts the free-travel benefit to women and transgender residents of the capital, replacing the 2019 policy that covered all women including non-residents.
  • Cards are issued free at 50 designated counters across the city, with Aadhaar-based authentication used to verify age, gender and Delhi residency, and officials urged commuters not to rush.
  • Positioned under the National Common Mobility Card initiative, the Pink Saheli card records journeys digitally and is intended to enable interoperable use across services such as the Delhi Metro and RRTS.
