Overview
- A food delivery driver, Mohammed Furuk Ahmed, was struck while crossing the road in Ilford on 16 March 2024 and died of catastrophic injuries the following day.
- Mayan Hirani was convicted of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop and was sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court on 10 July 2026 to six years and nine months in prison.
- Investigators established the Range Rover was travelling between 64 and 68 mph, more than twice the local speed limit, a central factor in the dangerous-driving conviction.
- Officers traced the vehicle through CCTV and ANPR enquiries to a garage in east London, Hirani later admitted he had been the driver and had driven away from the scene.
