Overview
- One driver died early Thursday at the 7 Mile and Southfield intersection on Detroit’s west side.
- Michigan State Police say troopers saw a Chevy Trax speeding over 90 mph on Southfield Freeway near 8 Mile and tried to catch up before activating their lights at 7 Mile.
- The Trax then hit a southbound Chrysler 300 that was turning onto 7 Mile, killing the Trax driver and leaving the other driver unharmed.
- Police closed the intersection for the investigation, where one car had major front-end damage and another was heavily damaged.
- MSP said excessive speed contributed to the crash and that any role of impairment remains unknown.
