Overview
- A call shortly after 7:30 a.m. reported a woman trying to steal a trailer on Balboa Avenue near Convoy Street, and officers spotted a Toyota 4Runner towing a trailer leaving the area.
- Police attempted a stop as the driver entered northbound I-15, and a short pursuit ended when a tire on the SUV blew, leaving the trailer on its side near Pomerado Road and the driver refusing to exit.
- The California Highway Patrol issued a traffic alert shortly after 8:30 a.m., diverting vehicles off northbound I-15 at Miramar Way as lanes were closed for more than an hour.
- Police said the woman later drove the disabled SUV north in the southbound lanes, possibly clipping a couple of vehicles, before stopping on the inside shoulder south of Mira Mesa Boulevard.
- The driver approached other motorists and tried to get into their cars before officers arrested her around 9:45 a.m., with the two inside southbound lanes blocked during the police activity.
