Driver Arrested After Delhi-Registered Car Kills 60-Year-Old Near Manali

The arrest could intensify local calls for stricter checks on tourist conduct in the Parbati Valley.

Overview

  • A Delhi-registered car struck and killed 60-year-old local Ramkrishan on Naggar Farm Road, and witnesses said he was dragged about 20–25 feet before the vehicle reversed and ran him over a second time.
  • Police arrested 29-year-old driver Vikrant Vij, seized the vehicle and detained two other occupants as investigators registered a culpable-homicide case under Section 105 of the BNS and motor-vehicle offences under Section 187.
  • Eyewitnesses reported the car was playing loud music and its occupants were consuming alcohol, though those claims are part of the ongoing probe and have not been formally proven.
  • A post-mortem was completed and the body was released to the family, and Sub-Inspector Inder Singh of Patlikuhl police is leading an active investigation that will determine further legal action.
  • The case follows a separate May 30 violent tourist incident in Kullu district and is likely to increase local pressure for permanent security checkpoints and tighter monitoring of visitors to tourist valleys.
