Overview
- A vehicle left the roadway and drove onto a sidewalk at Main Street and West Broadway, striking a family of four during Lincoln’s Loon Festival and pinning a 24-year-old woman beneath the car, police said Saturday.
- Lincoln firefighters and police freed the woman and LifeFlight airlifted her to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center with serious injuries while three other family members, a 29-year-old man, a 5-year-old and a 3-month-old, were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
- Officers arrested 57-year-old Carl Hartley of Mattawamkeag at the scene after observing signs of impairment and conducting field sobriety testing; he is jailed in Penobscot County and charged with aggravated operating under the influence and unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs.
- An Intoxilyzer test showed no alcohol impairment, officers reported, and a certified drug recognition expert was called after signs consistent with drug impairment were observed but Hartley declined that evaluation.
- Police said they found suspected illegal drugs and contraband in the vehicle that yielded a presumptive positive for methamphetamine and that laboratory analysis of the seized substance and Hartley’s court-ordered blood sample is pending with investigators warning additional charges may follow.
