Drink-Driver Jailed for M27 Crash That Cost Footballer His Leg

The court referenced alcohol over the limit plus attempted video calls before impact in imposing sentence.

Overview

  • Southampton Crown Court jailed Anna Bogusiewicz, 45, for 28 months and banned her from driving for three years after guilty pleas to causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drink-driving.
  • Prosecutors said she drove on the hard shoulder and tried to make four video calls minutes before the collision, with a breath test reading of 55 micrograms against the 35 legal limit.
  • The crash happened on 1 February 2025 on the M27 near Ower as passenger Jordan Chiedozie inspected a flat tyre on a VW Golf after returning from Bashley FC’s match with physio Reighan Taylor.
  • Chiedozie, 31, was put into an induced coma, had his right leg amputated, suffered additional fractures, and spent about six weeks in hospital before ongoing rehabilitation.
  • Judge Nigel Peters KC called it a very serious piece of driving, and Hampshire police said the life-changing collision was avoidable had she not driven while impaired.
