DRI Seizes More Than 24 Kg of Drugs in Kerala Operation

The coordinated crackdown signals an intensified push to disrupt organised trafficking that uses airports, courier networks and export channels.

Overview

  • The DRI’s Cochin unit, which carried out coordinated raids on Saturday, seized over 24 kg of suspected narcotic drugs and arrested five people under Operation Chakravyuh.
  • Officials said the contraband included suspected methaqualone, methamphetamine and hashish oil that were intended for illicit distribution.
  • Seizures and arrests took place in Kochi, Malappuram and Thiruvananthapuram, with drugs recovered from passenger baggage, courier consignments and outbound export cargo.
  • The five detainees are being held and investigated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 as suspected operatives in trafficking networks.
  • The operation builds on the DRI’s sustained work in Kerala after last financial year’s seizures worth about ₹70.76 crore and 21 arrests, and it may disrupt cross‑border routes that exploit airports and courier systems.
