Overview
- DRI’s Nagpur unit intercepted a truck on National Highway-53 near the Mathni Toll Plaza and seized about 522.55 kg of cannabis during an operation that led to two arrests.
- Officers found 247 packages packed into eight HDPE bags and concealed in specially built cavities behind the driver’s seat, above the driver and passenger seats, inside a locked toolbox under the cargo area, and on the cabin roof.
- The recovered consignment is valued at roughly Rs 2.61 crore in illicit-market estimates, the truck was impounded and a case was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
- DRI officials said the operation was intelligence-led and on Friday exposed a trafficking route used to move large consignments from the Odisha–Andhra Pradesh border toward Maharashtra.
- The seizure adds to earlier actions this year by the same DRI unit that recovered over 1,250 kg of ganja in linked operations and arrested four people, and investigators are now tracing local distributors and wider syndicate links.
