Overview
- India’s anti-smuggling agency, which reported the case Saturday, intercepted two arriving passengers at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and seized 2.659 kg of cocaine.
- Acting on specific intelligence, officers stopped a woman from Addis Ababa and recovered 1.575 kg of liquid cocaine packed in eight pouches hidden in her baggage.
- In a separate operation, an African male passenger was found to have swallowed cocaine capsules and later expelled 70 of them, yielding 1.084 kg in a high-risk method known as body packing.
- The DRI valued the liquid consignment at ₹7.875 crore and the capsule haul at ₹5.42 crore, for a total illicit-market value of ₹13.295 crore.
- Both passengers were arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and investigators said they are mapping the wider trafficking network linked to the couriers.
