Dresden Prosecutors Indict 17-Year-Old Over Ricin Mix and Homemade Explosives

The next step is a Riesa court’s decision on whether to open proceedings following the indictment.

Overview

  • Prosecutors charged the teenager with manufacturing and possessing a biological weapon and with 13 counts of unlawful handling of explosive substances.
  • Investigators say he produced three ampoules of a ricin–aconitine mixture in December 2024 in an attic lab at his parents’ home in Zeithain and stored them in a refrigerator.
  • He is also accused of making 13 noise/explosive devices from chemicals bought online and detonating some near the family property during 2024.
  • The defendant has confessed, cited scientific interest as his motive, has no prior convictions, and remains at liberty with no evidence he intended to harm others.
  • More than 150 officers searched the home in April, seizing equipment and electronic data, and the Amtsgericht Riesa will decide whether to admit the indictment and open the main proceedings.
