DRDO’s Man-Portable Anti-Tank Missile Passes Top-Attack Test on Moving Target

Officials say the success moves the MPATGM closer to Army induction.

Overview

  • The third-generation fire-and-forget MPATGM was flight-tested on January 11 at the KK Ranges in Ahilya Nagar, Maharashtra, by DRDO’s DRDL, Hyderabad.
  • Trial footage released by DRDO shows a steep top-attack profile culminating in a successful strike on the moving target.
  • The indigenously built system integrates an IIR seeker for day and night use, all-electric actuation, an advanced fire control unit, a tandem warhead, and new propulsion and sighting systems developed across multiple DRDO labs.
  • A thermal target system from Defence Laboratory, Jodhpur, simulated a tank, with reports citing an effective range up to about 4,000 metres and launch from a tripod or vehicle.
  • Bharat Dynamics and Bharat Electronics are development-cum-production partners, as Rajnath Singh and DRDO chief Samir V Kamat hailed the trial as a step toward Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
