Overview
- DRDO’s Vehicles Research & Development Establishment in Ahilyanagar showcased two Advanced Armoured Platforms on Saturday, unveiled by Chairman Samir V. Kamat.
- Both prototypes use an indigenous 30 mm remote turret paired with a 7.62 mm coaxial gun and are configured to launch anti-tank guided missiles.
- The vehicles are amphibious with hydro-jets and run high-power engines with automatic transmissions, delivering STANAG Level 4 and 5 modular blast and ballistic protection.
- Tata Advanced Systems and Bharat Forge built the prototypes with MSME support, and DRDO plans to lift local content from about 65% to 90% while adding features such as AI during development and user trials over the next two years.
- Kamat cautioned that some firms quote unrealistically low values to become Development‑cum‑Production Partners and said DRDO will refine the selection process to keep it fair and transparent.
