DOSB Expands AI Shield Against Online Abuse for MilanCortina 2026

Athletes will opt in to real-time filtering that routes potential crimes to investigators.

Overview

  • The German Olympic Sports Confederation will reuse and upgrade its Sportradar-powered system for the 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics to protect athletes from abusive social media posts.
  • The AI moderates comments in real time across up to 30 languages and 25 abuse categories, building on a Paris 2024 pilot that logged more than 61,000 comments and auto‑hid roughly 4,000.
  • Legally relevant content will be forwarded immediately to specialized prosecutors and the ZIT cybercrime unit, while the DOSB works with DFB and DFL to enable prosecution without individual complaints.
  • An information call on January 7 will brief athletes, who can choose to activate the filter on their accounts, with the option after the Games to review logged material and decide on criminal complaints with support from the DOSB and authorities.
  • On-site welfare officers and response staff will be available during the Games to support mental health, assist with sudden harassment incidents, and activate the protective tools on request.
