Overview
- The 2.6-gigawatt Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project, which began sending electricity to the grid Monday, is producing from one Siemens Gamesa turbine rated about 14.7 megawatts.
- Dominion reports the build is roughly 70% complete with 176 foundations in place, two turbines installed, and 160 of 176 transition pieces set to connect towers to their monopile bases.
- Dominion says how much power reaches customers will hinge on PJM Interconnection’s transmission upgrades, and it has asked the grid operator for an interim study after assuming only about 50% near-term deliverability.
- The price tag has risen to about $11.5 billion from $9.8 billion as tariffs, the December stop-work order, and assigned network upgrades add costs, and Dominion says the average household now pays about $11 a month for the project.
- Construction resumed under a January 16 court injunction following Interior’s December 22 halt, and Dominion targets most work by late 2026 with final completion in early 2027 to supply a region facing fast-rising power demand.
