DOJ Unmasks Les Wexner and Others in Epstein Files After Lawmakers’ Review

A bipartisan visit by Reps. Ro Khanna with Thomas Massie prompted the Justice Department to reverse some redactions in the newly released Epstein files.

Overview

  • The Justice Department reposted a 2019 FBI document with new unredactions naming Les Wexner as a listed co‑conspirator alongside Lesley Groff, Jean‑Luc Brunel and Ghislaine Maxwell, while four names remain blacked out.
  • Reps. Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie reviewed unredacted materials at DOJ headquarters and then publicly identified six previously hidden names: Wexner, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Salvatore Nuara, Zurab Mikeladze, Leonic Leonov and Nicola Caputo.
  • Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said some blackouts were inadvertent and are being corrected, noting Wexner is referenced nearly 200 times in the files and bin Sulayem appears more than 4,700 times.
  • Khanna said a large share of the trove remains obscured, estimating that 70% to 80% of the documents still contain redactions, as Congress continues oversight of the release process.
  • None of the six men has been charged in connection with Epstein, and Wexner is set to appear before the House Oversight Committee on Feb. 18 as debate continues over redaction standards and context within the millions of released records.
