DOJ Opens Civil Rights Probes Into Three Michigan School Districts Over Gender-Related Instruction

Districts must deliver requested curricula materials by April 6, including records on single-sex space policies.

Overview

  • The investigations cover Detroit Public Schools Community District, Godfrey-Lee Public Schools, and the Lansing School District across pre-K–12 classes.
  • Federal reviewers will determine whether any sexual orientation or gender ideology content is taught and whether parents were notified of opt-out rights.
  • The probes also examine whether access to bathrooms and locker rooms is restricted based on biological sex.
