DOJ Files Link Epstein Guard to Pre-Death Google Searches, Flagged $5,000 Deposit

The records newly identify Tova Noel as the likely officer seen near his cell on CCTV, with no new charges announced.

Overview

  • FBI logs show Tova Noel searched “latest on Epstein in jail” at 5:42 a.m. and 5:52 a.m. on Aug. 10, 2019, roughly 40 minutes before Jeffrey Epstein was found unresponsive.
  • An internal FBI briefing in the released files says investigators believed Noel was likely the figure seen on blurry surveillance near Epstein’s cell around 10:40 p.m., carrying linen or inmate clothing.
  • JPMorgan Chase reported multiple cash deposits to Noel’s account dating to 2018, including a $5,000 cash deposit on July 30, 2019; the DOJ release includes bank activity from December 2018 showing seven cash deposits totaling $11,880.
  • The FBI’s 66-page forensic review highlighted Noel’s internet activity as significant; in a 2021 sworn interview, she said she did not recall making the searches and questioned the records’ accuracy.
  • Prosecutors previously alleged Noel and colleague Michael Thomas skipped mandated 30-minute checks and falsified logs; both were fired, and related criminal charges were later dropped.
