Overview
- Emails released by the Department of Justice include a Nov. 12, 2012 exchange in which Epstein wrote “Nice meeting you finally,” and Rubenstein replied, “Enjoyed the chance to meet you as well.”
- Boris Nikolic introduced the two by email in mid-2012 and encouraged a meeting, describing Epstein as one of his dearest friends.
- Rubenstein’s representative says the contact was limited to one brief meeting at Carlyle’s office and that a suggested follow-up with Ehud Barak never occurred.
- A July 2012 message shows a “Sarah K” sending Epstein a bathing-suit photo that he forwarded “for david rubenstein,” with Nikolic replying “Thank you! HOT,” and Rubenstein’s camp says he never saw it.
- The DOJ files, released last month, do not allege wrongdoing by Rubenstein; his name appears frequently in scheduling and social emails, and he later bought the Orioles in a 2024 deal valuing the team at about $1.7 billion.
