DOJ and FBI Records Link Guard Tova Noel to Pre-Dawn Epstein Search and Flagged $5,000 Deposit

The records newly identify Noel in surveillance summaries, adding detail to a case where charges were previously dropped.

Overview

  • FBI computer forensics show Noel searched for “latest on Epstein in jail” at 5:42 a.m. and 5:52 a.m. on Aug. 10, 2019, less than 40 minutes before Epstein was found dead by hanging at about 6:30 a.m.
  • An internal FBI briefing assessed that Noel was likely the indistinct “orange” figure seen near the SHU L-Tier around 10:40 p.m., reportedly carrying linen or inmate clothing.
  • DOJ files include a Chase suspicious activity report noting a pattern of cash deposits to Noel’s account beginning in 2018, with a $5,000 cash deposit on July 30, 2019.
  • Prosecutors previously said Noel and fellow officer Michael Thomas skipped required 30-minute rounds and falsified logs; both were fired and criminal charges were dropped in December 2021.
  • In a 2021 sworn interview, Noel disputed the FBI’s search records and said she did not recall looking up Epstein or distributing linen that night.
