Overview
- The Collier County Sheriff’s Office arrested Gregory Zecca, 39, on charges of aggravated manslaughter of a child with a firearm and using a firearm while under the influence.
- Investigators say the July 19, 2025 shooting occurred in Naples after Zecca drank for hours, used marijuana, and practiced drawing and dry-firing a handgun before a reinserted magazine led to a fatal shot striking his son, Anthony, 13.
- Deputies reported smelling alcohol and seeing marijuana at the scene, and a toxicology expert later estimated Zecca’s blood-alcohol concentration at about 0.116, above Florida’s 0.08 legal limit.
- If convicted of aggravated manslaughter, Zecca faces a potential life sentence, as the family and his attorney describe the death as a tragic accident and note he was placed on a psychiatric hold after the shooting.
- An arraignment is scheduled for March 2 as the case proceeds in Collier County.
