Dog Rescued From Sealed Wall in Paraná Is Adopted as Police Open Cruelty Inquiry

Overview

• Pandora, a community dog in Guarapuava, was located Saturday after about ten days missing when a student recognized her bark, and police authorized neighbors to break the wall to free her.
• The Paraná civil police opened an animal-cruelty investigation under Brazil’s environmental crimes law and are working to identify who was responsible for the construction and how the dog ended up trapped.
• Workers at the site told RPC the chamber was designed as a hollow support space with no doors or windows and said they did not see or hear the animal before sealing it.
• After the rescue, caregiver Jaqueline Ribeiro adopted Pandora, and a veterinarian said she is healthy, about six years old, and has an old eye injury not linked to the entrapment.
